On August 16, Grand Knights Chess Academy welcomed young minds to the Knights Fiesta Beginners Battle U500—a lively and inclusive chess tournament designed especially for new players.
For many participants, this was their very first taste of competitive chess, and the energy in the room was electric with curiosity, courage, and camaraderie.
The event featured three rounds of play, giving students a chance to test their skills, learn from each match, and build confidence in a supportive environment. Win or lose, every child walked away with a trophy—because at Knights Fiesta, effort and growth are always worth celebrating.
Between rounds, Coach Sloan led a mini chess lesson, offering bite-sized strategies and tips that players could immediately apply. Families also joined a brief info session on scholastic chess, where we explored the many benefits of chess education—from boosting focus and critical thinking to opening doors to local, regional, and national opportunities.
More than just a tournament, Knights Fiesta was a joyful training ground—a place where children discovered the thrill of the game, made new friends, and took their first steps into the wider world of scholastic chess.

We’re proud to support these young knights as they begin their journey. Onward to more battles, more learning, and more fun!
